This is a Talespire adaptation of the map for the adventure “The Impregnable Fortress of Dib”, featured in Prepared! written by Jon Sawtasky and published by Kobold Press.

Dib and his gang of wrestling goblins have modified an overturned boat into a small wooden fortress on an island and are terrorizing travelers. Once the fortress is breached or destroyed, the goblins retreat underground to await the final confrontation.

This map is a reskinned and expanded version of the page-accurate adaptation I created. I reskinned it as an island to fit into a (my) sea-faring campaign, with some terrain additions allowing for more difficulty scalability and plot versatility. The board as-is can still be played exactly as described in the published adventure, but now there’s a little more room for growth if you want a longer one-shot with more enemies or even a recurring location for your campaign.

Changes/additions:

  • A set of docks instead of the road as an entry point for our goblins to funnel enemies into. A goblin boat has been all but gutted for lumber for the fortress. To extend the adventure, you could post guards and have your party start at the docks.
  • More debris/cover options, and some nearby fire that can inspire ignition strategies. There are also now chickens and a goat around the fortress who could be hostile.
  • The crossbow turret from Dib’s Wagon of Doom has been added, and the fort reworked a bit to work as a former boat rather than a wagon. Recommend (significantly) increasing the DC to capsize the fortress.
  • The underground area has been expanded to include a small armory and a mess hall before reaching the main chamber. You can equip the armory or have everything in it be ruined and useless. I imagine the good stuff the goblins keep with them and they mostly use this for arrow storage, but maybe your party gets lucky! There are also now more 5 ft. wide choke points that could have traps hidden for adventurers.
  • Precise Hide Volumes have been included to hide the room contents when exploring, and GM Blocks to adjust the exposure and fog density for upper and lower areas added also. Vertical fog must be adjusted manually.
  • This is not indicated in the map, but I intend to run this with a secret passage that connects the area behind the throne to the rocks by the docks. This gives Dib an escape route to flee on his boat, or perhaps attempt to commandeer your party’s.

** As a bonus this also includes a naval version of Dib’s Wagon of Doom in a hide volume near the docks – Dib’s Rowboat of Doom. Perhaps the party comes across Dib pirating locals in his armored rowboat and chase him back to the island.
