Dreadwood Maze – Magic Forest

In the southern reaches of the kingdom of Keoland, where the sun’s warmth fades and shadows deepen, lies the Dreadwood—a forest of ancient secrets and unforeseen perils. Here, the air is thick with mystery, and the very trees seem to whisper secrets long forgotten by mortals.

Within the tangled depths of the Dreadwood, pathways wind and twist in defiance of logic and reason, leading travelers astray and confounding even the most seasoned adventurers. Beneath the canopy of towering trees, hidden glades hold secrets that defy explanation, while murmurs in the wind speak of ancient guardians and long-lost treasures waiting to be discovered.

Inspired by the legendary lost forests from the early Zelda games, this maze presents a challenging puzzle for your players as they navigate from crossroads to crossroads. There is only one truly logical path, but more often than not, choosing a particular route will lead them to unexpected places within the forest. The last attached picture illustrates how the crossroads are interconnected.

Various encounters can be incorporated at different points to enhance the gameplay. For example:

• Two Owlbears engaged in a mating ritual
• A group of Bugbears and Hobgoblins, disoriented and bickering over the correct path
• The banshee siblings Illithor and Ialantha, who can offer insights into the forest’s mysteries in exchange for a cherished item.
