Ubril’s Fools – Alespring Board
A board I designed for a one-shot by Griffin Porche.
I played through this one-shot with my friends – to quote one of them: “that is the hardest I have laughed in quite a while.”
Alespring
I’ve added the four Alespring encounters to this board, intended to be approached in this order:
- Twisted Fates
- You will find the mysterious figure and both goblins at the entrance to town, next to some bushes they can hide in.
- Victims of Fortune
- Just along the road, you will encounter Jalia, and Hewan coming back from making enquiries at the tavern.
- You will find Linus in his house just accross town, counting his gems.
- Further accross town, you will find Markin’s house
- 2 mimics outside in a bush (toolbox and backpack)
- Markin unconsious in the bush
- Paelyn inside the front door
- 1 mimic inside next to Paelyn (chair)
- Search Party
- The Nilbog, 2 hobgoblins, and 13 villagers all at the town well (that produces ale!)
- Guilty Goblin
- Pulbo behind the church, on the path to Fool’s Folly
I’ve tried to save some reasonably helpful shots in the cutscene blocks and label the encounters with bookmarks.

Urbil’s Fools is a one-shot adventure designed for April Fools’ Day, but makes for a great adventure anytime you want to do something whimsical with your party. The adventure features a mischievous nilbog who has flipped luck on its head, and it’s up to the player characters to put a stop to him before he recovers a legendary item that can only make things worse for his gullible victims!
Urbil’s Fools is intended for a party of 3rd-6th level characters, but can easily be adjeusted for a party of any level, and contains roughly 4 hours of adventure. This modular one-shot breaks all of its encounters into “Scenes,” allowing you to choose the best one to start your players in, and allowing for a very customizable experience while still being supported by the amount of structure required to make a satisfying one-shot adventure.
