Monster Lairs – Demilich – Abandoned Graveyard

The story of Arya Blackmoor is a tragic one. She and her husband Dylan were childhood sweethearts. They studied sorcery together and eventually married. The pair challenged each other, driving them on to greater and greater magical feats. When they eventually married, they knew that they wanted to spend the rest of eternity together. To that end, they decided to become liches together. Unfortunately, when they performed the ritual to transform themselves, Arya was successful, while Dylan was not.
Due to the nature of the ritual, it was impossible to resurrect Dylan afterward, but that did not stop Ayra from trying. She built a secret laboratory hidden beneath a mausoleum she had built for her husband. There, she had everything she needed for her research. She had a small cell where she stored people for her experiments and to feed her phylactery, as well as a lab, library full of necromantic tomes, magical ritual room and the bedroom she hoped to one day share with her deceased husband. To ensure none would bother her, besides the entrance being secretly hidden beneath the floor of the mausoleum, she sealed all doors with arcane lock and created a pair of flesh golems to turn back any who managed to get past the doors.
Her privacy was maintained and for years she worked on finding a way to revive her husband. Eventually, she had poured over every necromantic tome, spoken to every dark being, and performed every dark experiment she could think of. She had to accept that her husband was never coming back. With her goal no longer driving her, she lost her will to do anything. She stopped feeding her phylactery and the handful of prisoners she had accumulated for that were left to starve to death in their cell. She just lay in bed all day and grew weaker and weaker until finally her body crumbled to dust, leaving behind only a skull filled with anger and sorrow. To this day she lies sealed away in her dusty graveyard home, ready to lash out at any who would disturb her eternal sorrow.
