Monster lair – Basilisk – Tropical cave
Slab

A lonely path cuts through a tropical forest. Amid the heat, humidity and mosquitos is a cave that one might on casual observation think is a fair shelter on the side of the road to take a rest. That would be a deadly mistake. Though a rare flower with powerful medicinal properties grows abundantly atop the cave, the abandoned wagon and collection of rock shards left scattered in front of the cave, some of which resemble pieces of a statue, should be one’s first clue to move on. As one goes deeper into the cave, they come across half shattered statues of folk who have looks of terror in their eyes. Between that and the growls coming from the dark reaches of the cavern, it should be glaringly obvious that this is not a place to stick around. It is the home of a family of basilisks who use this spot to prey on passing travelers.
