In the war-ravaged kingdom, every strategic pass had become guarded by one side or the other in a hope of choking out a victory. This bridge was no exception, soldiers had built up gate houses on either end of the bridge and a camp had sprung up along its span. The party was turned away by soldiers at the gate, and sought other means of crossing the river.
