Virtual Tabletop Journey presents the iconic Curse of Strahd – Castle Ravenloft map recreated for use in TaleSpire! This map was made possible by the Castle Ravenloft – Talespire edition Kickstarter! Thanks so much for your support!

Watch the trailer by GrimbeardAdventures!

Ooiittee and Blackwolf_Majik put a HUGE amount of work into this board and have pushed Talespire to its absolute limits. Please, please, please reach out to support them. This map was a year in the making and represents an incredible labor of love.
Note – Although the builders did everything they could, the complexity of the main floor and the technical limitations of Talespire has made creating perfect Hide Volume architecture impossible 🙁 I might revisit the board in the future, if HV features are enhanced, but, for now, the amount of time needed to add can’t be justified 🙁

Warning

The map is located at a minimum height of 300 and max of about 900. When you first load the board you will need to change your board settings to accomodate the height! The castle is BIG!

Castle Ravenloft has pushed Talespire to its limit and, unfortunately, playing through the upper castle map may prove to be frustrating in practical play. We designed the map to mitigate these limitations as much as we could but there are still several issues to keep in mind.

  • The height slider in Talespire is fickle, even when locked in place. Getting the height correct such that floors above the play area are hidden while still leaving room to move your token, can take skill.
  • Castle Ravenloft is BIG. Really big. It is so large that not all of it will render at once in Talespire without the use of unofficial plugins. In the future, we hope a feature will be added to allow users to define their Talespire draw distance.
  • Castle Ravenloft is created from thousands and thousands of assets. The map will not run well on slower computers. This problem should be resolved with time as computers get faster/better/cheaper.
  • At present, Talespire does not handle curves well. Due to the many curves in the castle and its complex layout, Hide Volumes for the upper floors just aren’t justifiable given how much the castle would need to change (and how much time it would take to do so) to make them work correctly. If you choose to use the upper floors during play, you will need to get creative in how you hide the mysteries of the map.

Board Features

  • Environment blocks for morning, noon, sunset and moonlight.
  • The amount of detail in this board boggles the mind.
  • The Undercroft features hide volumes for exploration.

THANK YOU HEIMDAHLR

Honestly, none of the Castle Ravenloft stuff would have been finished without him providing consistent motivation and sanity checks.

  1. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all who were involved in making this happen. Been looking forward to the release of this map I know it was a massive undertaking and a complicated task to accomplish and I think you guys knocked it out of the park!

Just had my first session where the players had dinner with Strahd and this castle was the perfect setting for that story to take place and the session went amazingly well!

    • Zorum thank you so much for your post. It makes all this work so worth while to hear that its help make a session enjoyable. Now drag them down to the dungeon so Strahd can enjoy his dessert….
