Ch. 2E-7: Monastery of the White Sun
(Source: 4E – Dungeons Magazine 207 “Fair Barovia” Pg. 40)
SETUP: Through the interactions with the Vallaki townfolk, the characters have an opportunity to perform several quests that establish their reputation as brave adventurers. Once they have proven themselves, spies in the employ of Count Strahd von Zarovich point them in the direction of the White Sun Monastery, where “Brother Henrik” is holed up. Once the vampire-assassin Leo Dilysnia is destroyed, arrangements are made to send the adventurers on their way. Two of Strahd’s allies in Vallaki, a Vistani seer named Arabelle Zarovan and a halfling guide named Falstan Mitrache, urge the adventurers to leave Barovia. The count himself sends a carriage to transport them to the edge of his domain. If they refuse this gift, the count shows them no further generosity and might dispose of them at some later time. This side adventure is rated for levels 5-7.

After an exhausting trek, you come to a bluff that offers a majestic, if dizzying, view of the valleys and forests of Barovia. Below, several tributaries of the Luna River spread across the valley like a monstrous hand reaching out from the base of Mount Ghakis. Near the point where the “fingers” converge stands a stone monastery with a cemetery and a small orchard nearby. A squat bell tower crowns the edifice.

Welcome to the Monastery of the White Sun! as detailed in “Fair Barovia” adventure from Dungeon Magazine 207.

The Monastery is built in attempt to be as accurate as possible to the map. I’ve included Leo Dilysnia and the host of creatures wrote into the original adventure and have stat blocks for all.

The Monastery of the White Sun sits North East of the Ruins of Berez on the side of a mountain, right above that run off from the Luna River.

I have a working document for those interested that includes snippets from the original story along with narration for DM’s and the encounters.

Thank you.

Changelog.

Version 1.0 – Release
Version 1.1 – I’ve fixed a couple roofing errors, added atmosphere fog, added a night time lighting and deleted the underground flying vampire.
Version 1.2 – I’ve updated the map to the same quality as my latest builds. Included a GM’s panel, new exploration and combat ambiance, updated some interior and exterior design and expanded the map on the outside a small bit as well as raise it. With this I also added the Wine/Mead cellar that the adventure previously only described but had no map for. Added a community model to the Forsaken Shells, but also added the Boneless creature in the GM panel for those who wish to switch them out.
