Upscale Roman Insulae
Board

The major human civilization in my campaign is based on Greco-Roman/Hellenistic culture. Unfortunately, there’s a major lack of these styles of buildings so I took a crack at making my own.
The majority of people, I think like 70% or something, lived in Insulae. Literally “islands,” these massive buildings had multiple floors that housed the poor, as well as some “middle class.” Anybody with real wealth would typically have their own villa. The top floor was for common folk and was usually a studio-style apartment with a family crammed into it. The middle floors were for up-and-coming merchants or artisans. The bottom floor is an open market with all manner of goods sold. I furnished the apartments but got lazy and didn’t do the rest of it. I’ve been preoccupied with other things but I saw another gentleman on here making Greco-Roman stuff and I figure I may as well dump this for better/more diligent builders.
Everything is my own creation save for some of the furnishings which I believe came from Princess P0pc0rn, Workshop Panda, and/or Blackwolf Majik. I can’t remember what I actually used for the bunk beds and some of the other pieces. The ovens I modified it from one of the sets. This Insulae is actually pretty upscale. I have a dingier one I’m working on that was a little more typical but who knows when I’ll get that done. I got distracted making medieval Japanese buildings for the Samurai Dragonborn in the same campaign. Ultimately I’ve accomplished little but it sounds cool on paper….
Hey good job at making houses for this specific era! I appreciate it and have added it to my collection as I’m doing something similar. I’ve only recreated a few similar pieces from the Greek/Roman era so keep on trucking! We need more like this.
Thanks brotha! I actually just remade this to match the work that Dustdown has been doing. The scale and overall feel are better.
