The Yawning Portal is a famous inn and tavern located in the Castle Ward of Waterdeep. Adventurers can meet all kinds of characters here, from travelling merchants and tradesmen to famous explorers and dungeoneers.
Most of the ground floor is taken up by the main floor of the Tavern, with the second and third floor offering more private tables and booths as well as some rooms for travellers. The main floor also hosts the entrance to Undermountain, home of the Mad Mage. A winch and cage offers patrons of the Tavern the chance to enter Undermountain to seek fame and fortune, though Durnan typically advises against it with rare exception.
