Of all the dangers in the Underdark, darkmantles may seem to be a nuisance at best. That is assuming that one has to deal with them in ideal conditions, but the conditions in the Underdark are rarely ideal. For example, this nest of darkmantles likes to0 roost on the ceiling near a treacherous path over a purple worm tunnel. When unwary walk across the pass, the darkmantles like to swoop down and blind them, potentially causing a fatal misstep. The fall usually kills their prey. Anything powerful enough to survive the fall may alert the purple worm tunneling in the area.
