Great Oni Tree

A small encounter board featuring the Great Oni Tree, cursed to hold the spirit of a powerful Oni who is said to be so mighty that even the Shogun bowed to him! Four noble samurai bound him to the tree with a mystical kitana they imbued with their essence, requiring a ritual sacrifice that has tied the spirits of the samurai to these woods for eternity. However, an even greater threat lay on the horizon, and the players must find a way to pull the sword from the tree to fight this new foe.

One of the oni-cursed samurai stands in front of the tree, while three others are hidden from view (in trees). Throughout the map, grave markers with stone lanterns are located. These lanterns represent the trapped souls of the samurai. Once defeated, the samurai will rise again in 1d6 minutes. The players must extinguish or destroy the stone lanterns to end their cycle of rebirth and make it possible to release the sword from the tree. I’ve also hidden a massive Oni, who you can unhide once the players remove the sword. The sword should have significant stats if you decide to run this.
