Downstream Outpost
Board

You slip into the water and immediately feel the pull of the current; a bit of downhill momentum starting to build. It’s not overwhelming, but it would take considerable effort to swim against the flow. It’s cool and clear, and if you dip beneath the surface it reveals a sparkling scene of sand and rocks dancing along the riverbed.
As you surrender to the stream it sweeps you away with haste and there’s barely time to take a look back at the camp. By the time you’re floating around the first bend, it disappears completely from sight, leaving you to wonder whether you’ve done enough – or if it will all fade from your memory like a bad dream.
The river dips down into a shallow but steep little canyon where years of erosion have allowed the water to carve deep into the rock, creating ten-to-fifteen foot vertical banks on either side. Your speed and the sheerness of the wet stone makes it nearly impossible to climb out at this point, though doing so looks unsafe for other reasons.
