Ch. 2E-11: Monastery of Silver Threads
(Source: Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume 1 Pg. 13)
SETUP: The Monastery of Silver Threads has little information, in 398 BC, Strahd confronted Lord Leo Dilisnya here, but fell into Leo’s trap. Leo almost managed to defeat Strahd, if it were not for the intervention of the monks of this monastery. Today it stands abandoned, though rumored to be filled with unimaginable treasures guarded by correspondingly unimaginable undead guardians. The monastery is on Mount Baratak/Mt. Baratok.
The journey up Mt. Baratok is exhausting, but you eventually reach a plateau in which a ruined monastery stands before you. The wind howls as the drifting snow falls to the ground in deathly silence.
Welcome to the Monastery of Silver Threads! It appears in Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume 1 as the tomb of Leo Dilysnia.
No real floor plan is ever laid out for the monastery except that now it is abandoned and their is an ancient crypt and a room with divine wards. I based the style on the Monastery of the White Sun, changed it up and then added the basement/crypt layer. I’ve included a couple monsters if you wish to create this into a combat encounter along with Leo Dilysnia, which I have translated into a 5E stat block.
Leo Dilysnia should either be entombed in here or located at the Monastery of the White Sun, not both. I have designed it in a way that shows Leo still entombed here, but can be easily modified to make it appear as he escaped.
I have a working document for those interested that includes snippets from the original story along with narration for DM’s and the encounters.
Thank you.
