The following is a suggestion for a tale for this board. It is what I used, and I hope it will inspire you

A long time ago a planet was struck by an alien object. This object were to terraform the planet so it would suit the creators of the object. That would grow to be the Archtree, and The Thorn, the mistridden forest that surrounds the Archtree, followed in its wake.

Over thousands of years the planets new races started to encroach upon the Archtree, and sensing a hostile environment,  the Archtree chose a lumberjacks daugther to protect it an gave her the powers to do so. For aeons the woman protected the forest, and has in the latest couple of years been training a mage apprentice. The untimely death of the lumberjacks daughter left the apprentice alone in protecting the Archtree, that is sustaining the atmosphere for the planets inhabitants.
