My attempt at making a hex-map of the first part of the Curse of Strahd map containing Barovia Village, and Strahd’s castle (Basically the region between the west and east gates).

I needed to make it quickly to keep up with the campaign so it’s pretty rough, but was good enough to let the party travel and roll for encounters. I also decided to break Barovia into three regions (Barovia, Vallaki, and Krezk) to prevent lag on slower hardware. Also I’ve found that if the map gets too big overall, players can have trouble orienting themselves. Barovia was the first built and the most experimental, so it’s also the least refined.

I suggest making one mini to represent the whole party and making it enormous, then giving all players control of it, and let them roll the D20 for encounters – it’s easier than trying to get them to keep their minis together. Try to choose a mini that won’t be needed in other maps so that it can stay on the board in the correct location when you switch off to encounter boards, or else the party will forget their location.

I used a modified version of this style by Ongot to make the hexes Overworld Hex Tiles – Tales Tavern
