From The Shadows Overworld Hex Map
Board
Hello everyone!
This is an over-world hex map intended to be used for play with the 1992 AD&D TSR adventure, “From The Shadows” by Bruce Nesmith. It is centered on Castle Avernus and contains the surrounding regions. Quick disclaimer– this is not a complete map of Darkon, because the adventure of From The Shadows does not encompass the entire Demiplane. I put a ton of effort into this hex map because I’m a firm believer that we eat first with our eyes. The lore of this snippet of land is set before the events of The Requiem, so Il-Aluk is not yet Necropolis.
What does this hex map contain?
The following points of interest are included in this hex map:
1.) Nartok (small city)
1a.) Old Town
1ab.) Veteran Arms (inn)
1b.) New Town
1ba.) The Crow’s Roost (inn)
1bb.) Cedarsplint Inn
1c.) Student District
1ca.) Season’s Turn (inn)
2.) Creeana (ruins/village)
3.) Rivalis (small city)
3a.) The Crystal Garden (Greenhouse, unfortunately I was unable to figure out how to get a greenhouse on the hex map, so it simply appears as a garden.)
3b.) Two Brothers (Cheese Factory)
3c.) Traveler’s End (inn)
3d.) The Old Waypoint (inn)
4.) Redleaf Lake
5.) King’s Highway
6.) Transumbra Road
7.) Vuchar River
8.) The Old Road (Not a canon placement of it. Technically Bruce Nesmith says this can be anywhere within the vicinity of “a city that was sacked in the last hundred years or so”. I used Creeana because it was destroyed by The Whistling Fiend, and I started my players in Nartok at Veteran Arms.)
9.) The Forest of Shadows (wilderness)
10.) Castle Avernus
11.) Mayvin (town)
11a.) The Clockworks (clock tower)
11b.) The Patent Hall (haunted town hall)
12.) The Mountains of Misery
13.) Corvus River
14.) Corvia
14a.) The Baronial Tower
14b.) The Whistling Tower (natural formation)
15.) Il Aluk (massive city)
15a.) Aluk Meridian (South Borough)
15b.) Aluk Septentrion (North Borough)
15c.) Old Il Aluk (Borough)
16.) Decimus (Abandoned village)
16a.) Ranherdt Haus
17.) Desolatus (Village)
17a.) The Garden of The Amaranth
This map unfortunately does not contain the other two satellite villages of Il Aluk because the scope of the map ends before they can appear within it’s borders. Although there really shouldn’t be a reason to go that far away from Castle Avernus in this adventure so you should be fine.
